East vs West
Eastern or Western: how the NBA wheel splits
The NBA's 30 teams form two conferences of 15, and each conference holds 3 divisions of 5. The buttons beside the wheel follow that layout exactly.
- 1 in 30Any one team3.333% with the whole league on
- 1 in 15Inside a conference6.667% once East or West is off
- 1 in 5Inside a division20% for each of its 5 teams
Your browser's crypto generator chooses the team first; the animation only reveals it. Speed and the Stop button never change the outcome. See 10,000 test spins charted for any list you paste.
Tip-off
How the random NBA team generator works
Three moves cover nearly every use. The filters, name style and pick mode all sit in the panel next to the wheel.
Set the field
Leave all 30 teams on, or tap Eastern Conference, Western Conference or a division such as Southwest to take those teams off.
Spin
Tap Spin, the wheel or Space. The popup names the team with a line like “Pacific Division · Western Conference”.
Keep it or drop it
Close the popup to keep the team in play, or press Remove so it sits out the next spin.
Narrowing the field
For one division, tap No teams and then that division; its 5 teams get 20% each. A button drawn with a dashed border is only partly on. Pick teams one by one opens a checklist, and All 30 teams resets the list. A line you typed yourself, such as a local college team, stays put whatever you press.

Challenge
NBA spin the wheel: the starting-five challenge
The starting-five challenge builds a lineup from five random teams. Draw five teams with no repeats, then name one current player from each for point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center.
Switch to Several, no repeats, enter 5 in How many to pick, then press Pick. The list keeps the draw order with each team's division, so the first team fills point guard and the fifth fills center. Quick spins cut each turn to 1 second, Stop the draw ends it early, and the Results tab keeps the draw with its time.
The random NBA team generator can hand out 17,100,720 different ordered draws, or 142,506 sets if order doesn't matter. Two friends almost never get the same five, so everyone builds a different team.
Division clashes are normal. Five teams from five different divisions turn up only 13.2% of the time. For a jersey-number twist, spin 0 to 99 on the number wheel and pick a player who wore it.
- Your favorite team is one of the five16.7%
- All five come from different divisions13.2%
- At least two share a division86.8%
- All five come from one conference4.2%

New to basketball, or ready to cheer for someone new? Spin once and adopt whichever team lands until its last game. Two in three teams on the wheel play on after the regular season.

Format from NBA.com's guide to the league, which also lists 82 games per team for the 2025-26 regular season. The shares on the bar are fixed by that format, so a team picked at random has exactly a 66.7% chance of a Play-In spot or better.
Draft night
Fantasy drafts and league-mode saves
A random NBA team settles the choices that stall a draft night or a new video game save. Each card uses a different setting on the same random NBA team generator.
Fantasy draft order
Clear the teams, enter each manager's name in the Entries box and draw the full list without repeats. A 10-team league has 3,628,800 possible orders.
Franchise or league mode
Basketball video games with a franchise or league mode start with a team choice. Spin once and play the whole save with that team.
Pick’em night
Spin one team per player. Each player predicts the final score of that team’s next game; the nearest guess takes the round.
Basketball quiz
Spin, then ask for three current players, the home arena or the division. A wrong answer passes the spin on.
Split the league
Share all 30 teams in an NBA pool
Office pool mode shuffles the 30 teams and deals them out in turn, so nobody ends up more than 1 team ahead. Type the people, one per line, and press Deal.
- 3 × 103 people10 teams each, none left
- 5 × 65 people6 teams each, none left
- 6 × 56 people5 teams each, none left
| Players | Teams in each hand | Spare teams |
|---|---|---|
| 3 players | 10 | None |
| 4 players | 7 | 2 |
| 6 players | 5 | None |
| 7 players | 4 | 2 |
| 8 players | 3 | 6 |
| 10 players | 3 | None |
30 teams split evenly between 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 15 or 30 people. Left-over teams either go to random people, 1 each, or stay undealt; you choose before dealing. Download CSV saves every hand with divisions, and a season-long pool can be scored on wins. The same crypto shuffle seats the people and deals the teams. Weights set in the Entries tab change spin odds, never the deal.
Spelling
Why the NBA wheel says LA Clippers
NBA.com lists the team as LA Clippers, and the wheel copies the league's spelling for all 30 teams. Typing “Los Angeles Clippers” in the Entries box still counts as the same team, so filters and the pool treat it correctly.
Nicknames keep their full form: 76ers, Trail Blazers and Timberwolves. Switch Names on the wheel to Nicknames when the slices feel crowded; the popup still prints the full name.
Kings is the one nickname another league here shares: the Sacramento Kings and the NHL's Los Angeles Kings. Each wheel only matches its own league, so typing “Kings” here always means Sacramento.

FAQ
Random NBA team generator FAQ
How many NBA teams are on the wheel?
All 30, 15 in each conference and 5 in each of the 6 divisions.
Can I spin only Western Conference teams?
Yes. Tap Eastern Conference to take those 15 teams off, and tap it again to bring them back.
Which NBA team is in Canada?
The Toronto Raptors, the only Canadian team in the league. They play in the Atlantic Division.
How do I give 6 friends 5 NBA teams each?
Type the 6 names in Office pool and press Deal. 30 divides by 6 exactly, so nobody gets an extra team.
Can I draw 5 teams at once for a lineup challenge?
Yes. Pick Several, no repeats and enter 5. Copy list keeps the order of the draw.
How many teams make the Play-In?
8: places 7 to 10 in each conference, according to NBA.com. They play for the last two playoff seeds.
Does the wheel pick NBA players?
No. It picks teams only. To spin players, tap No teams and list the players in Entries instead.
Why “LA Clippers” and not Los Angeles?
That is how NBA.com writes it. Either spelling typed in Entries counts as the same team.
