The list

Every object on the wheel

The random object generator holds 191 things you can find in a home, a classroom or a park. Each one is easy to recognize and safe for kids, so the wheel works for a class of 7-year-olds as well as an adult drawing group.

Press a group in the options next to the wheel to add or remove its objects. Anything you type in Entries stays on the wheel when you change groups.

Quick start

How to use the random object generator

Pick what goes on the wheel, choose a game, then spin. It runs in the browser on a phone, a laptop or a classroom board.

  1. Choose the groups

All 9 groups start on. Press a group to take it off, for example to keep only kitchen objects for a cooking class.

  2. Pick a game

Just spin shows the object and its group. Draw it, Describe it and Find it turn the result into a challenge.

  3. Set a countdown

Choose 30, 60 or 90 seconds. The timer starts when you close the result, so everyone hears the rules first.

  4. Spin

Press Spin, tap the wheel or hit Space. Spin again for the next player.

Drawing practice

Random objects to draw

A random object takes the "what should I draw?" decision off your plate. You get something specific and ordinary, which is the point: a mug or a sneaker tests if you can draw what is really there.

Try the same object three times. Draw it from memory first, then find the real thing, or a photo, and draw it again from life. The gap between the two sketches shows what your memory skipped, such as the thickness of a mug's rim or the way laces cross.

Turn on the emoji pictures when you want a quick reference, or turn them off to work from memory. For bigger scenes and characters, the what to draw wheel mixes subjects, styles and settings.

Games

Three games for a random item generator

Each game mode writes the challenge into the result, so the player who spun knows exactly what to do.

  • Draw it

One player sketches the object while the others guess. No letters or numbers on the paper. First correct guess spins next.

    Pictionary-style2+ players

  • Describe it

Explain the object without saying its name: what it is made of, where it lives, what you do with it. Great for building vocabulary.

    Word gameLanguage class

  • Find it

Bring back the object, or the closest thing you can find, before the countdown ends. Works at home, in a classroom or at a party.

    Scavenger huntGet moving

  • Random game

Each spin picks draw, describe or find at random, so nobody knows which challenge is coming.

    MixedParty rounds

For word-only rounds, the random word generator has Pictionary and charades word sets. For animals, the random animal generator has its own draw and act-it-out modes.

Classroom

Using an object generator in class

Everyday objects make low-pressure prompts, because every student already knows them. Put the wheel on the board in full screen and spin once per round.

  • Vocabulary and ESL

Describe it mode practices adjectives and "it is used for…" sentences without a word list to memorize.

  • Writing prompts

Spin two objects and write a short story where both matter. A teapot and a compass make a strange adventure.

  • Art warm-ups

Run the three-round drawing warm-up at the start of a lesson. Each round takes 3 minutes or less.

Fair picks

How often will the same object come up?

Each spin gives every object on the wheel the same chance: 1 in 191 with all groups on. Spins don't remember each other, so the same object can turn up twice in a row.

Repeats come sooner than most people expect, for the same reason two people in a class often share a birthday. With fewer objects on the wheel, repeats come faster still. If repeats spoil the game, turn on "Remove the winner automatically" in the Customize tab, and each object leaves the wheel once it is picked.

The pick is drawn by your browser's secure random generator the moment you press Spin. See how the picks are tested.

  • 5 spins, all 191 objects5.1%
  • 10 spins, all 191 objects21.3%
  • 20 spins, all 191 objects64.3%
  • 10 spins, music only (14)98.7%

Objects or items?

Random item generator: what this one covers

This wheel picks real-world objects, the kind you can hold, draw or find. People also search "random item generator" for things inside video games, such as Minecraft blocks or tabletop treasure. Those aren't on this list.

Need different items?

Type your own list in Entries, one item per line, and it stays on the wheel next to the objects. For a fully custom wheel, use the main spin the wheel page, and for pictures only, try the random emoji generator.

FAQ

Random object generator FAQ

How many objects are on the random object generator?

191. They are split into 9 groups, and the full list is printed on this page.

Can I add my own objects?

Yes. Open Edit entries & settings and type them in Entries, one per line. Your own entries stay when you switch groups on or off.

Does it show pictures?

Yes, as emoji. 136 objects have a matching emoji, and the rest show their name. Emoji look slightly different on each device.

Can I use it for Pictionary?

Yes. Choose Draw it and a 60-second countdown. The result tells the player what to sketch, and the timer starts when they close it.

Will the same object come up twice?

It can. Every spin is independent. Turn on "Remove the winner automatically" in the Customize tab if each object should come up only once.

Is the random object generator free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, and it works in any current browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
