Random Number Generator Wheel

This random number generator wheel puts one whole number on each slice and spins to pick one from any range you set. Use numbers up to ±1,000,000,000, with at most 10,000 on one wheel.

What to pick

10 numbers: 1, 2, 3 … 10

On the wheel

A wheel holds up to 10,000 numbers, the entry limit of every wheel on this site. For a bigger range, raise the step or pick digit by digit.

Spin the wheel 1–100, 1–10 or any range

Type the lowest number in From and the highest in To, press Make wheel, and every number in between gets an equal slice. On a random number generator wheel, the chance of each number is 1 divided by how many numbers are on it.

People also call it a random number wheel, a number picker wheel or a number spinner. This one opens with 1 to 10, so “spin the wheel 1–10” works the moment the page loads. The range builder makes whole numbers only. For decimals such as 0.5 or 2.75, type each one into the Entries box on its own line.

Quick start

How to use the random number generator wheel

The range, step and leave-out boxes sit next to the wheel. The Entries box stays folded under “Edit entries & settings” until you need it.

  1. Set From and To

Type the lowest and highest numbers. Either one can be negative.

  2. Add a step or leave-outs

Step 5 counts 5, 10, 15 and so on. Leave out skips numbers and runs, such as 3, 7, 10-12.

  3. Check the count, then Make wheel

The card shows how many numbers the range makes before anything changes. Undo brings back the old wheel.

  4. Spin

Press Spin, click the wheel or press Space. The number shows in a popup and in the Results tab.

Step and leave-out

Random number generator wheel options: step and leave-out

A step sets the gap between numbers, and the leave-out list skips single numbers and runs. The wheel ends at the last number that does not pass To.

No repeats

Pick several numbers with no repeats

Choose “Several, no repeats”, type how many, and press Pick. The wheel spins once per number. Each number drawn sits out the rest of the draw, so none comes up twice. When the draw ends, every number goes back on the wheel.

The numbers appear in draw order. Copy keeps that order, Copy sorted puts them smallest first, and the Results tab saves the draw as one line. One draw takes up to 100 numbers, or every number on the wheel if there are fewer.

Plain spins of the random number generator wheel are different. Each one is independent, so repeats arrive sooner than most people expect. On a 1 to 100 wheel, a repeated number is more likely than not by spin 13. In a Several draw, each number's chance of being picked is the draw size divided by the count on the wheel: 6 from 49 gives every number 12.2%.

  • 1 to 10: a repeat within 5 spins69.8%
  • 1 to 20: a repeat within 6 spins56.4%
  • 1 to 100: a repeat within 13 spins55.7%
  • 1 to 1,000: a repeat within 38 spins50.9%

Long numbers

Digit by digit: build a long number

Digit-by-digit mode spins a 0 to 9 wheel once for each digit and joins the results into one number. Choose from 2 to 10 digits. A 6-digit draw has 900,000 possible results, far more than the 10,000 numbers a single wheel holds.

The first digit is never 0 unless you tick “Allow a leading zero”. The 0 slice sits out the first spin, so the first digit is 1 to 9, each with a 1 in 9 chance. A 4-digit draw then always gives a true 4-digit number from 1000 to 9999.

Tick “Allow a leading zero” for codes and ticket numbers printed with zeros in front, such as 0427. A 4-digit draw then gives 0000 to 9999.

Digit by digit gives every possible number the same chance as one big wheel holding the same numbers. Each digit is an independent 1 in 10 pick. 3 digits make 10 × 10 × 10 = 1,000 equally likely results, the same 1 in 1,000 as a single wheel from 000 to 999.

6 digits, no leading zero (100000 to 999999)900,0001 in 900,000
Two 0 to 9 spins added together (0 to 18)19Not equal: 9 is 1 in 10, while 0 and 18 are 1 in 100 each

Two differences that matter in practice

  • Ranges. Digit by digit only makes full blocks, such as 0 to 999 or 100 to 999. For 1 to 500, use one wheel, because no digit setting stops at 500.
  • Joining is not adding. Joining 2 digits side by side gives 100 equally likely results. Adding them makes 9 ten times as likely as 0, because 10 digit pairs sum to 9 and only 0 + 0 sums to 0.

The limit

Why a number picker wheel stops at 10,000

Each wheel on this site holds up to 10,000 entries, so the range builder stops at 10,000 numbers. The count is checked before the wheel is built. A range that is too big shows its count and the ways to fix it, instead of a cut-down wheel.

  • Raise the step

10 to 100,000 in steps of 10 makes exactly 10,000 numbers.

  • Leave out a block

Skip a run you do not need, such as 5001-9000.

  • Go digit by digit

5 digits with a leading zero cover 00000 to 99999.

With more than 150 slices, hover a slice to see its number. The number at the pointer also shows under the wheel.

Settings

Number wheel settings for class, raffles and games

A number picker wheel fits any choice where the options already have numbers, from raffle tickets to seats. Each row lists the random number generator wheel settings to type in.

Lottery-style picksFrom 1, To 49, Several, 6 numbers. A wheel cannot improve lottery odds: there are 13,983,816 possible sets, so any one set has a 1 in 13,983,816 chance of matching all 6.

  • Any total, one 2–12 wheel9.09%
  • Total of 2, two 1–6 wheels2.78%
Two wheels from 1 to 6 versus one wheel from 2 to 12. Bars are scaled to the most likely total.

Dice totals need two wheels

A single 2 to 12 wheel gives every total the same 9.09%. Two dice don't: a 7 comes up 16.7% of the time and a 2 only 2.78%. For dice games, make 2 wheels from 1 to 6 and press Spin all.

Numbers from a wheel have the same lottery odds as numbers you choose yourself. For a draw with named entrants and prizes, the prize wheel is set up for giveaways. For a random letter instead of a number, spin the letter wheel. For names or any other list, spin the wheel on the home page. To pick a day, the random date generator draws dates between any two dates, with weekday filters.

FAQ

Picking numbers: short answers

How do I pick a random number between 1 and 100?

Set From to 1 and To to 100, press Make wheel, then spin. Each number has a 1 in 100 chance.

Is this random number generator wheel really random?

Yes. Each number is drawn with your browser's crypto.getRandomValues before the wheel turns. Spin time, Quick spins and Stop change only the animation. Every number has the same chance unless you give it a weight in the entries table, and the fairness test charts 10,000 picks on any list.

Can the wheel pick the same number twice?

Yes, on separate spins. Each spin is independent. To stop repeats, use “Several, no repeats”, or press Remove in the result popup after each pick.

Does the wheel work with negative numbers or decimals?

Yes. From and To accept whole numbers from -1,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000. For decimals such as 2.5, type each one into the Entries box on its own line.

What is the biggest range the wheel can hold?

A wheel holds up to 10,000 numbers. A wider range needs a bigger step, a leave-out block or digit-by-digit mode.

Why does digit-by-digit mode never start with 0?

A number such as 0427 is not a true 4-digit number, so the 0 slice sits out the first spin. Tick “Allow a leading zero” to allow results such as 0427.

Is a number wheel fair for a raffle?

Yes. Every ticket number has the same chance on each spin. Share the range and any left-out tickets before the draw, and record the screen while you spin.

Where can I see the numbers I picked?

The Results tab lists every pick with its time. It stays in your browser and exports as a CSV file. A several-number draw is saved as one line.
